聖誕節過完幾天，緊接著迎接2021年。

歷經全球經濟衰退（economic meltdown）、新冠病毒爆發（the outbreak of covid-19）和英國正式脫歐（Brexit）等事件，猶如打開潘朵拉盒子（Pandora’s box）般，困境傾瀉而出。

希臘神話典故（allusions of Greek mythology）在結尾中說道，Pandora趕緊關上盒子，因而留下了──希望（hope）。

大地雖多災多難，但因有一絲希望存在，使人類得以努力奮鬥，生生不息。
今天跟各位分享，在多事之秋（eventful year）的一年，兩位年度女性（women of 2020）代表：Ursula von der Leyen及Pamela Zeinoun，為今年劃下完美得句點。

原文：It has been a grueling year for the European Commission’s new president. 原文：Following the explosion that hit Lebanon’s capital in August, the young nurse picked through the debris of the neonatal unit where she works, rescued three premature babies from smashed incubators and carried them for hours to safety.

譯文：今年八月，黎巴嫩首都發生爆炸不久後，這名年輕的護士（26歲）在她工作的新生兒病房廢墟中，從砸碎的保溫箱內，救出了三名早產兒，費了好幾個小時，將他們移送到安全的地方。

原文：Zeinoun’s legs gave way. She told herself: “It’s not time to panic, not time to cry.”
